Germany\u2019s political economy of labour migration has oscillated between liberalizing and restricting policies. Recently, a highly proactive approach to attract skilled migrants has been adopted. Compared to other destination countries, Germany has invested significantly in the re-establishment of transnational, state-funded infrastructures and programs to support desired skilled mobility. Though still small in scale, these new approaches follow ambitious political claims of relatively large cross-border skill flows accompanied by ethical, transparent, secure and fair recruitment.
