Migration Skill Corridor Report: India-Austria \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

This report examines the re-emerging Migration Skill Corridor between India and Austria, focusing on how growing demand for skilled workers in Austria, particularly in healthcare and STEM, is driving new recruitment initiatives and educational partnerships with India. Drawing on 21 interviews conducted in both countries, it analyses the legal and institutional frameworks governing recruitment, skills development, qualification recognition, mobility and integration.\u00a0<\/p>

The findings show that the corridor is gradually evolving from fragmented public and private recruitment initiatives towards a more structured and institutionalised system. The 2023 Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement has provided fresh momentum for cooperation in education and skills, although it has not created new migration pathways. Partnerships between Austrian and Indian universities, alongside employer-led recruitment and training initiatives, are helping to strengthen mobility opportunities.<\/p>

Significant challenges remain, including German language requirements, differences in qualifications and training standards, complex recognition procedures and insufficient coordination among recruitment actors. The report also highlights risks of fraud and misinformation associated with unregulated intermediaries.<\/p>

The authors identify opportunities to improve coordination, strengthen transparency and simplify qualification recognition, including through a planned system for pre-assessing vocational training programmes. These developments could help make the India\u2013Austria corridor more effective, accessible and sustainable for employers and skilled migrants alike.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
